EU Naval Force Flagship ITS Andrea Doria Conducts Local Maritime Capacity Building During Visit to Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania
During their recent port visit to Dar es Salaam, the EU Naval Force flagship, ITS Andrea Doria conducted Local Maritime Capacity Building (LMCB) training with personnel from the Tanzanian People’s Defence Force.  The training included briefings on the procedures for handling Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), the boarding of ships, first aid techniques and medical capabilities.


Madagascar welcomes EU Naval Force Frigate FGS Luebeck
On Monday 24 November, the Republic of Madagascar welcomed the EU Naval Force German frigate, FGS Luebeck, and her crew in to the port of Antsiranana. As a German warship has not visited Madagascar for some time, the German Ambassador, His Excellency Harald Gehrig and FGS Lubeck’s Commanding Officer, Commander Semrau, took the opportunity to invite Government and military representatives on board.

Over the past few weeks, the EU Naval Force warship, ESPS Navarra, has carried out several friendly approaches to fishing dhows off the northern coast of Somalia.

On 2 December the Flagship of EU Naval Force ITS Andrea Doria paid a port visit to Djibouti. This gave the opportunity for the Force Commander of EU Naval Force to pay a number of visits to French national forces and the EU Naval Force Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Aircraft (MPRA) detachments based in the country.

On Tuesday 2 December Colonel Giampaolo Schiavo handed over command of the Djiboutian-based Italian Task Force Air (TFA) to Colonel Elio Volpari.


EU Naval Force Officer Awarded Honour by Djiboutian Government
On Sunday 7 December Djiboutian Prime Minister Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed graciously awarded Commander Bernard Baron (French Navy) the rank and dignity of Officer of the National Order of 27th of June.

On Friday 5 December EU Naval Force Spanish frigate, ESPS Navarra, rendezvoused at sea with the EU Naval Force flagship, ITS Andrea Doria, off the coast of Somalia.


ESPS Rayo Joins EU Naval Force Operation Atalanta
On Monday 8 December Spanish warship ESPS Rayo joined the EU Naval Force.  The ship will be deployed at sea in the Indian Ocean and Gulf of Aden for the next 6 months.

EU Naval Force and South Korea Navy Ships Meet at Sea in the Gulf of Aden
During the morning of 19th December, EU Naval Force Warship, ESPS Rayo, and the South Korean destroyer, ROKS Daejoyeong, met at sea to to enhance the relationship between EU Naval Force warships and those of other task forces operating in the area.

From 15 to 19 December, the EU Naval Force Flagship, ITS Andrea Doria, paid a port visit to Madagascar, berthing for the first time in the beautiful bay of Antsiranana.

On Sunday 21 December whilst conducting counter-piracy patrols, Spanish Navy warship, ESPS Rayo, met local seafarers in the Gulf of Aden.

EU Naval Force (EU NAVFOR) Somalia - Operation Atalanta is part of the EU's comprehensive approach to tackle symptoms and root causes of piracy off the coast of Somalia and the EU Strategic Framework for the Horn of Africa adopted in November 2011.

EU NAVFOR conducts anti-piracy operations off the coast of Somalia and the Indian Ocean and is responsible for the protection of World Food Programme (WFP) shipping carrying humanitarian aid to the people of Somalia and Horn of Africa as well as the logistic shippings supporting the African Union troops conducting Peace Support Operations in Somalia (AMISOM). Additionally, Operation Atalanta contributes to the monitoring of fishing activity off the coast of Somalia.
