European Parliament calls for urgent measures to save lives

PLENARY SESSION Press release - Immigration − 29-04-2015 - 14:31

The EU should do everything possible to prevent further loss of life at sea, e.g. by expanding the mandate of “Triton” operation in the Mediterranean to include "search and rescue operations at EU level", says a resolution voted by Parliament on Wednesday. MEPs also call for a binding quota for distributing asylum seekers among all EU countries, bigger contributions to resettlement programmes, better cooperation with third countries and tougher measures against people smugglers.

Parliament urges the EU and its member states to establish a clear mandate for Triton, "so as to expand its area of operation and increase its mandate for search and rescue operations at EU level" (Triton is coordinated by the EU border agency Frontex and currently extends only 30 nautical miles from the Italian coastline).

The EU and its member states should ensure that "search and rescue obligations are effectively fulfilled", stresses the resolution, which was approved by 449 votes to 130, with 93 abstentions.

Parliament calls for "a robust and permanent humanitarian European rescue operation, which, like Mare Nostrum, would operate on the high seas and to which all member states would contribute financially and with equipment and assets". MEPs urge the EU to co-fund such an operation.

EU countries should also continue to show solidarity and commitment by stepping up their contributions to the budgets and operations of Frontex and the European Asylum Support Office (EASO), MEPs add. Parliament also undertakes to provide these agencies with the resources (human and equipment) needed to fulfil their obligations "through the EU budget and its relevant funds".

Stepping up solidarity and responsibility-sharing among EU countries

Parliament regrets that the 23 April European Council did not pledge to set up a binding EU-wide solidarity mechanism. To respond to the latest tragedies in the Mediterranean with "solidarity and fair sharing of responsibility", MEPs say that:

  • the European Commission should establish a "binding quota" for distributing asylum seekers among all EU countries,

  • member states should make full use of existing possibilities for issuing humanitarian visas and seriously consider whether to trigger the 2001 Temporary Protection Directive or Article 78(3) of the TFEU (both foresee a solidarity mechanism in the event of mass and sudden inflows of displaced persons),

  • EU countries should make greater contributions to existing resettlement programmes, and

  • the Common European Asylum System rules should be rapidly and fully transposed into national law and implemented by all participating member states.

Cooperating with third countries and fighting smugglers

The resolution calls for closer coordination of EU and member state policies in tackling the root causes of migration and more cooperation with partner countries in the Middle East and Africa.

It also calls for the strongest possible criminal sanctions against human trafficking and smuggling and urges member states and EU agencies to work more closely to detect and trace these criminal networks' funding and identify their modus operandi, so as to prevent them from making money by putting migrants’ lives at risk.

Finland: Navy is unable to confirm nature of underwater object….

Finnish Navy has dropped depth charges in a alleged ’submarine' alert  however the Navy is unable to confirm nature of underwater object….An unidentified object was spotted on Monday within Finnish territorial waters. It was detected again early on Tuesday, the navy said. The incident comes amid growing concern in the region over Russia's military exercises.

Finnish Navy

Swedish Navy

In October last year (2014) Sweden launched a hunt for a foreign submarine suspected to have entered waters near Stockholm.  However once again nothing was found or seen except the image here below...

Finnish Navy operations chief Commodore Olavi Jantunen told Helsingin Sanomat newspaper
that the depth charges, dropped at 03:00 on Tuesday (midnight GMT), were meant only as
a warning.  "The bombs are not intended to damage the target, the purpose is to let the target
know that it has been noticed,"

Defence Minister Carl Haglund said the object seen in the Baltic Sea this week could have been a submarine."We strongly suspect that there has been underwater activity that does not belong there.
Of course it is always serious if our territorial waters have been violated," he told Finnish news agency STT.

Commodore Jantunen was more cautious, telling Finnish public broadcaster YLE only that the sightings involved a "possible underwater object". Finland has by some media become increasingly worried about the military exercises of neighbouring Russia. The two countries share a 1,300km (800 mile) border.
But the defence minister could not even say whether he thought Russia was involved.

Today however Navy chief of staff Admiral Juha Vauhkonen said that it’s not yet possible to say whether or not the underwater object detected in waters near Helsinki was a submarine. Speaking during a news conference Tuesday evening, Vauhkonen said that if the object does turn out to be a sub that violated Finnish territorial waters, the matter will be investigated by the Finnish Border Guard.
Navy chief of staff Admiral Juha Vauhkonen said that it is not possible to say with any certainty whether or not the underwater object detected in the Gulf of Finland on Monday was a submarine.
The Admiral described the sighting as a category four case, meaning either a possible submarine or other underwater activity. “An analysis of the date about the case will be available only within days, perhaps even weeks,” he said.

Navy chief of staff Admiral Juha Vauhkonen the event that the object is found to be a submarine that violated Finnish waters, the matter would then be investigated by the Finnish Border Guard. He did not want to speculate on whether or not there were any similarities with a search for a submarine in the Stockholm archipelago by Swedish officials. Which in it self is a joke as no sub was ever found in the 70s until the pledged recent events last year. Either the Swedish are damn bad a developing marine technology or there has been no subs.
The choices are only two.

“Similar cases or situations have not occurred often. The last similar case in the Gulf of Finland dates back to 2004 and at the time we were forced to use warning depth charges on two separate occasions,” Vauhkonen noted. And with Finland being a Tech hub of global calibre it'd hard to imagine that the Finnish navy would be so poor as not being able to develop in 12 years.
Who cares about speculations ? Only the media who manage to sell any swan or seabird as a invasion
are happy when they hear this kind of news.  Quite frankly there must have been many intrusions in the Finnish and Swedish waters in the past but but as nothing has been proven.

The first indication of the presence of the "alleged" underwater object came at 11.00 Monday morning and the second was made in the wee hours of Tuesday morning at 1.30 am.  A warning was given to the object at 3.00 am, Vauhkonen said. He did not disclose the size of the object or the depth at which it was detected.

The admiral said that the navy’s fixed surveillance network received a sound marking near Helsinki, which in turn led the operations centre to step up its underwater surveillance.  The Navy also said that it issued an order to a territorial integrity vessel (AKT1) to deploy in the area where the sonar reading was detected. “At the same time we sent out a request for coast guard boats in the Gulf of Finland to support the operation,” he added.  The vessels arrived at the location of the object Monday afternoon around 2.30 to monitor the area. Later on in the afternoon a decision was made to also deploy an AKT2 vessel that was in port at the time.

The Navy said that the next sonar reading was detected at 1.30 Tuesday morning and continued readings were detected at 1.5-hour intervals.  By this time the Navy had deployed the missile boat Hanko, the minelayer Uusimaa and the coast guard vessel Turva in the area. At around 03.00 am the captain of the Uusimaa decided to detonate a warning charge using low-impact depth charges.

Navy chief of staff Admiral Juha Vauhkonen that low-impact depth charges are used when there is sufficient evidence that there may be a submarine or other underwater activity in the area.
He concluded that the navy will continue to monitor the area using its fixed surveillance system.

At last but not least after all the unnecessary media hype...
Finns have started to joke about the entire matter and naturally social  media is full of local people claiming to have spotting sights like the one here ...

US: Senate Committee Approves Law to Fight anti-Israel Boycotts

The US Senate Finance Committee, in a unanimous vote, approved legislation countering economic boycotts of Israel and delegitimization of the Jewish state.
The United States Senate Committee on Finance approved last week a bipartisan amendment to the Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) legislation countering the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel.

Over the past several years, a growing number of countries have sought to isolate and delegitimize Israel through boycotts on Israel’s economy – an initiative promoted by BDS. This amendment uses ongoing trade negotiations to discourage prospective US trade partners from engaging in economic discrimination against Israel.
The amendment, which passed unanimously with a 20-6 vote, would require US trade negotiators to make rejection of BDS a principal objective in Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) mediations with the European Union.

Portman Welcomes Passage of Amendment to Deter Countries from Participating in Anti-Israel Movement

Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD), a member of the Senate Finance Committee and Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee as well as one of the authors of the amendment, stated after the bill’s approval: “Israel is one of America’s closest allies and the only stable democracy in the Middle East. We may not agree with every Israeli policy, but we cannot allow our potential trading partners in the European Union (EU) to fall prey to efforts that threaten Israel’s existence. Economic tools and trade agreements have been used throughout world history to move governments and change policy, but when these actions seek to delegitimize a country’s right to exist, we need to draw a line.”

Senator Rob Portman (R-OH), another author of the pro-Israel legislation, welcomed the new legislation, saying, “this amendment sends a clear message that if you want to be an economic partner with the United States, you cannot support politically motivated boycotts of Israel. I’m pleased that it was successfully included in this legislation because it says the United States will not stand with those who attempt to weaken Israel.”

AIPAC (The American Israel Public Affairs Committee) voiced support for Portman and Cardin, stating in a letter to the senators: “It is essential that this bill include principal negotiating objectives for our trade negotiators in the effort to ensure that European governments both take no action that could impede US-Israel commerce and dismantle existing politically-motivated boycotts against Israel. This would instruct the administration to use the tools at its disposal to push back against such practices during upcoming trade negotiations with Europe.”

WASHINGTON: Russian hackers accessed Obama's so called unclassified emails

Russians read Obamas mails or messages must be the measure of how little the Obama administration
actually are willing to loose on information and whats mostly public image.

During the Cold war the contrary would not have surprise anyone but today its all reverse.

The scandals in recent year regarding the security at the White House have however shown
us that the White House is less safe than ever thought by everyone. And as said before its a crippling US image we are forced to face now. Russia in contradiction is not seen as a bad boy but as the smart one by the masses as its common knowledge that the US basically leads when it comes to cover ups starting with Wikileaks and spying on alleged friends like the president of Germany...

So realty CNN reported that: Some of President Obama’s email correspondence was swept up by Russian hackers last year in a breach of the White House’s unclassified computer system that was far more intrusive and worrisome than has been publicly acknowledged, according to senior American officials briefed on the investigation.

The hackers, who also got deeply into the State Department’s unclassified system, do not appear to have penetrated closely guarded servers that control the message traffic from Mr. Obama’s BlackBerry, which he or an aide carries constantly.  But they obtained access to the email archives of people inside the White House, and perhaps some outside, with whom Mr. Obama regularly communicated.  From those accounts, they reached emails that the president had sent and received, according to officials briefed on the investigation.

video
Video by CNN

White House officials said that no classified networks had been compromised, and that the hackers had collected no classified information. Many senior officials have two computers in their offices, one operating on a highly secure classified network and another connected to the outside world for unclassified communications.

But officials have conceded that the unclassified system routinely contains much information that is considered highly sensitive: schedules, email exchanges with ambassadors and diplomats, discussions of pending personnel moves and legislation, and, inevitably, some debate about policy.

Officials did not disclose the number of Mr. Obama’s emails that were harvested by hackers, nor the sensitivity of their content. The president’s email account itself does not appear to have been hacked. Aides say that most of Mr. Obama’s classified briefings, such as the morning Presidential Daily Brief, are delivered orally or on paper  (sometimes supplemented by an iPad system connected to classified networks)  and that they are usually confined to the Oval Office or the Situation Room.

Still, the fact that Mr. Obama’s communications were among those hit by the hackers, who are presumed to be linked to the Russian government, if not working for it, has been one of the most closely held findings of the inquiry. Senior White House officials have known for months about the depth of the intrusion.

“This has been one of the most sophisticated actors we’ve seen,” said one senior American official briefed on the investigation.
Others confirmed that the White House intrusion was viewed as so serious that officials met on a nearly daily basis for several weeks after it was discovered. “It’s the Russian angle to this that’s particularly worrisome,” another senior official said.

While Chinese hacking groups are known for sweeping up vast amounts of commercial and design information, the best Russian hackers tend to hide their tracks better and focus on specific, often political targets. And the hacking happened at a moment of renewed tension with Russia, over its annexation of Crimea, the presence of its forces in Ukraine and its renewed military patrols in Europe, reminiscent of the Cold War.

Inside the White House, the intrusion has raised a new debate about whether it is possible to protect a president’s electronic presence, especially when it reaches out from behind the presumably secure firewalls of the executive branch.

Mr. Obama is no stranger to computer-network attacks: His 2008 campaign was hit by Chinese hackers. Nonetheless, he has long been a frequent user of email, and publicly fought the Secret Service in 2009 to retain his BlackBerry, a topic he has joked about in public. He was issued a special smartphone, and the list of those he can exchange emails with is highly restricted.

When asked about the investigation’s findings, the spokeswoman for the National Security Council, Bernadette Meehan, said, “We’ll decline to comment.” The White House has also declined to provide any explanations about how the breach was handled, though the State Department has been more candid about what kind of systems were hit and what it has done since to improve security. A spokesman for the F.B.I. declined to comment.

Officials who discussed the investigation spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the delicate nature of the hacking. While the White House has refused to identify the nationality of the hackers, others familiar with the investigation said that in both the White House and State Department cases, all signs pointed to Russians.

On Thursday, Secretary of Defense Ashton B. Carter revealed for the first time that Russian hackers had attacked the Pentagon’s unclassified systems, but said they had been identified and “kicked off.” Defense Department officials declined to say if the signatures of the attacks on the Pentagon appeared related to the White House and State Department attacks.

The discovery of the hacking in October led to a partial shutdown of the White House email system. The hackers appear to have been evicted from the White House systems by the end of October. But they continued to plague the State Department, whose system is much more far-flung. The disruptions were so severe that during the Iranian nuclear negotiations in Vienna in November, officials needed to distribute personal email accounts, to one another and to some reporters, to maintain contact.

Earlier this month, officials at the White House said that the hacking had not damaged its systems and that, while elements had been shut down to mitigate the effects of the attack, everything had been restored.

One of the curiosities of the White House and State Department attacks is that the administration, which recently has been looking to name and punish state and nonstate hackers in an effort to deter attacks, has refused to reveal its conclusions about who was responsible for this complex and artful intrusion into the government. That is in sharp contrast to Mr. Obama’s decision, after considerable internal debate in December, to name North Korea for ordering the attack on Sony Pictures Entertainment, and to the director of national intelligence’s decision to name Iranian hackers as the source of a destructive attack on the Sands Casino.

This month, after CNN reported that hackers had gained access to sensitive areas of the White House computer network, including sections that contained the president’s schedule, the White House spokesman, Josh Earnest, said the administration had not publicly named who was behind the hack because federal investigators had concluded that “it’s not in our best interests.”

By contrast, in the North Korea case, he said, investigators concluded that “we’re more likely to be successful in terms of holding them accountable by naming them publicly.”

But the breach of the president’s emails appeared to be a major factor in the government secrecy. “All of this is very tightly held,” one senior American official said, adding that the content of what had been breached was being kept secret to avoid tipping off the Russians about what had been learned from the investigation.

Mr. Obama’s friends and associates say that he is a committed user of his BlackBerry, but that he is careful when emailing outside the White House system.

“The frequency has dropped off in the last six months or so,” one of his close associates said, though this person added that he did not know if the drop was related to the hacking.

Mr. Obama is known to send emails to aides late at night from his residence, providing them with his feedback on speeches or, at times, entirely new drafts. Others say he has emailed on topics as diverse as his golf game and the struggle with Congress over the Iranian nuclear negotiations.

George W. Bush gave up emailing for the course of his presidency and did not carry a smartphone. But after Mr. Bush left office, his sister’s email account was hacked, and several photos — including some of his paintings — were made public.

The White House is bombarded with cyberattacks daily, not only from Russia and China. Most are easily deflected.

The White House, the State Department, the Pentagon and intelligence agencies put their most classified material into a system called Jwics, for Joint Worldwide Intelligence Communications System. That is where top-secret and “secret compartmentalized information” traverses within the government, to officials cleared for it — and it includes imagery, data and graphics. There is no evidence, senior officials said, that this hacking pierced it.

A version of this article appears in print on April 26, 2015, on page A1 of the New Yourk Times New York edition with the headline: Russian Hackers Read Obama’s Unclassified Emails, Officials Say.

France: Police arrest Islamist terrorist first after he shoot´s him self in the leg ..

An Islamist extremist named Sid Ahmed Ghlam was arrested in France on Wednesday charged with murdering a fitness instructor and planning to carry out a terror attack on at least one Paris church later the same day. The 24-year-old French-Algerian’s plans were exposed purely by chance on Sunday morning after he called an ambulance over a bullet injury to his leg. The man, named by French press as Sid Ahmed Ghlam, said he had been involved in “a settling of scores”.

But when police traced the blood back to his car, they found a large arsenal of loaded guns including an AK-47, multiple phones and documents that appeared to show information on potential targets, they found detailed plans to attack a Sunday morning congregation French prosecutors said. At the suspect's apartment, police found more weapons and documents that prosecutors said gave clear indications he was planning an attack.

French interior minister, gave a press conference on Wednesday telling the media that Ghlam was responsible for the murder of Aurélie Châtelain a 33-year-old fitness instructor, who was found in her car on Sunday morning, having been shot three times in the shoulder.  Aurélie Châtelain is a mother to a five-year-old daughter, she was in Paris to attend a pilates class, and was described by her family in Caudry, 50 miles south of Lille, as “a ray of sunshine”…..

The connection:
DNA at the scene connected Ghlam to Miss Châtelain, said French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve.

Really ?
The authorities have carried out security checks on the suspect twice in recent years but did not uncover anything to justify further investigation……
There was no immediate evidence the suspect had links to organised groups, a French security official told AP. However In the man’s apartment, in southeastern Paris, more weapons were found as well as material linked to Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, al-Qaeda and other Islamist extremists.

And even more links…
On Wednesday morning, just before Mr Cazeneuve spoke, Ghlam’s sister was arrested in the town of Saint-Dizier, near Nancy.  She was living in a tough district of the town, and French media said she too was a “known radical”.  If she was a known radical how comes that no red flags where given as the authorities carried out the security checks on Ghlam? On top of all twice!  Ghlam’s girlfriend has also been held for questioning…

The question from where proves that immigration from Islamic areas or states
needs to be strictly regulated  within EU.
Ghlam had moved to France in 2009, to join his family.  Aren’t we surprised as to hear that “only” his sister is known to be a radical? After all the family and its surrounding is usually where a girl and boy learns moral, be it love for others in the name of a god or hate and wishes to kill in another gods name. It all starts at home.  Media describes Ghlam as a computer science student, and that  he was placed on the “S” list, meaning “Sûreté de l’État”, state security list in 2014, said French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve….

Really ?
The authorities have carried out security checks on the suspect twice in recent years but did not uncover anything to justify further investigation…  There was no immediate evidence the suspect had links to organised groups, a French security official told AP. However if that's as accurate as the two terror investigations the French security had allegedly done, then its no wonder things are what they are in France right now.

Fact: Terrorists come and go in EU because the nonsense talking European parliament cant even suggest that all who leave should be denied return as that would be the only safety mechanism that can work against so called ping - pong reaction by already accustomed war trained Islamist who many times have killed children. (see link below)

Secure in France really ?
France claim to have stepped up security in the wake of recent attacks on the Charlie Hebdo offices and a Jewish supermarket. However amongst Jews in France most consider to move or have friends who wish to move away out of fears of Islamist attacks and daily racist neo-nazi comments like the one recently taken up in he media recently given by Marie le Pens father who is known for saying that the Gas Chambers where just a minor detail in history....

Fact: EU would never be so indecisive if this was a tax matter.
The man was known to security services as having expressed a wish to travel to Syria. France has a large Muslim population and Hundreds of French Muslim citizens have travelled to Syria and Iraq to fight alongside militants, with many at home with links to recruitment cells. While BBC and other media reported on this today no one seems to recall the many attacks that started "end of last year" and continued on almost a weekly basis until 2 month ago.

Security services from all over Europe are in a limbo and even in the  North of EU like Finland they had to close one event initiated by the Parliament on the advice by the newly formed anti terror unit by the secret police SUPO.
Reason: Cartoonist Vilks was suppose to take part. Such actions of weakness like the one by SUPO will only translate towards more interest by Islamists all specialists we know agree upon.
In other words, if police cant even try to protect an event and bend before anything has happened then the place is becoming a ultimate place for any radical group who wishes to establish it self.

In France the political power by Muslims is big and halt any decent dialog a the wast masses Muslims in France can vote, and hence any insult towards them would cost any politician votes that cant be lost. In other words safety for sale against votes.

Absurd Prime Minister comment
"Terrorists are targeting France to divide us," French Prime Minister Manuel Valls warned on Wednesday.  SDR thinks that this is at best a delusional comment by anyone handling public safety, and even worse, it being told the French PM to the media. How can anyone leave out the most important words on this matter namely: Killer with intent to be a Islamist terrorist. This should be corrected if the PM wants votes by the common man. Fact is that the tendency is growing towards transparency, as its the only cure against any sort of evil be it Islamist or something else.
Solutions, are "in" and lip service hiding any real truth are, "out".

Ambassador ret. Yoram Ettinger: At 67 Israel exudes long term optimism

67 years ago, upon Israel's declaration of independence, Life Magazine noted (May 31, 1948, pp. 21-28) the odds facing the 600,000 Jews of the newly-born economy-starved and militarily-embargoed Jewish State: "King Abdullah of Trans-Jordan sent his Arab Legion against Jerusalem…. Egypt's planes repeatedly bombed Tel Aviv.  Syria, Iraq, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia pitched in…. The Arabs cut off Jerusalem from the coast by blocking the road to Tel Aviv…. The old walled city came under artillery fire…. A three-pronged attack was compressing the [Jewish] defenders into the Jewish Quarter of the Old City…. While King Abdullah's Arab legion was spearheading the Arabs' land offensive…. The Jews had little but light anti-aircraft to fight off these attacks…. A country the size of Connecticut is ringed by hostile neighbors…. Time and geography favor the Arabs, and England, which does not recognize Israel, is sending the Arab states arms, [while] Israel's friends in the US aim to lift our embargo on arms…. Can Israel survive?"

In defiance of the jagged cutting edge of the Middle East and the world at-large, and in spite of boycotts, sanctions, embargoes, condemnations, wars, terrorism and diplomatic adversity, the Jewish State has catapulted from the 1939-1944 Holocaust, and the near-destruction during its 1948-1949 War of Independence, to world class stellar performance in the areas of economy, technologysciencemedicinehealthagricultureirrigationfirst responding, military and counter-terrorism, and sharing its exceptional achievements with the Third World, the West, and especially with the USA.
At 67, Israel reaffirms a historic fact: pressuring the Jewish olive produces superb oil.
At 67, against all odds, and beyond the wildest expectations, Israel demonstrates that principle-driven, highly-motivated and defiant societies are capable of transforming tough times into challenges and opportunities, while surging to new heights.

At 67, Israel enjoys splendid integration into the global economy and Israel's economy is praised by the International Monetary Fund and the three leading rating companies, Standard & Poor's, Moody's and Fitch Ratings.  Israel's GDP and industrial exports total $300bn and $47bn, respectively, compared to $1.5bn and $5mn, respectively, in 1948.  Israel's GDP growth (3%) is similar to the USA and higher than Canada (1.9%), Britain (1.6%), Germany (1.1%) and the OECD average (1.3%). Israel's unemployment rate (6%) is lower than the OECD average (7.5%). Israel's debt-to-GDP ratio (67% and declining) is lower than the USA (106%), the Euro Bloc (108%), the G-20 (97%), Britain (92%) and Germany (75%). Israel has the largest (per capita) number of startup companies in the world, the highest (per capita) ratio of university degrees, the highest ratio of research and development personnel (140 per 10,000 workers), and is a research and development hub of some 250 US high technology companies.  Overseas investment in Israel is at a record level and trade with India and China is skyrocketing.
At 67, Israel is facing a potential wave of Aliyah (Jewish immigration), which could be the most effective engine of growth, attracting more investment to Israel, enhancing Israel's Jewish demography, and bolstering Israel's posture of deterrence in a dramatic manner.  A pro-active Aliyah policy could generate 500,000 Olim - during the next five years – from France, Russia, Ukraine, Germany, Britain, Argentina and the USA, due to the relative strength of Israel's economy, the rise of global anti-Semitism, the gradual Islamification of Europe, and the expansion of Jewish/Zionist education in major Jewish communities.

At 67, Israel is – in contrast to the tumultuous, unpredictable, unreliable, violent and generally anti-US Arab Street – the only stable, predictable, reliable, capable, willing, democratic and unconditional ally of the US, regionally and globally. In 1969 and 1978, the Kaddafi and Khomeini revolutions transformed Libya and Iran from pro – to anti – US regimes.  In 2003, the rise of Erdogan changed Turkey from a pro-US to an anti-US Islamic orientation. In 2012, the pro-US Egyptian military regime was replaced by the anti-US Muslim Brotherhood terrorist organization. A regime-change in Jordan, Saudi Arabia and other Gulf States would trigger a similar anti-US shift.  On the other hand, Israel's right, left, hawks and doves are inherently and unfailingly allies of the US.

At 67, Israel is increasingly involved in the mutually-beneficial, two-way-street, win-win ties with the US, providing the US with critical intelligence on Islamic terrorism, exceeding intelligence received by the US from all NATO countries combined.  Moreover, Israel is the most battle-tested, cost-effective laboratory of the US defense industries, sharing with US manufacturers thousands of upgrades and modifications, enhancing the US global competitiveness, exports, research and development and employment. Israel is to the US defense industry what triple-A tenants are to shopping malls: increasing value and drawing clients - a mega-billion dollar bonanza.
At 67, Israel's robust demography leads the Free World with more than three births per Jewish woman, providing a tailwind to Israel's economy and national security. In 1995, there were 2.3 Jewish births per each Arab birth; in 2014 – 3.4 Jewish births. The number of Jewish births surged from 80,400 in 1995 to 136,000 in 2014 – a 68% increase – while the annual number of Arab births has stabilized over the years.  From 600,000 Jews in 1948, Israel's Jewish population has grown to 6.5 million, benefitting from a robust tailwind of fertility (especially among secular Jewish women!) and net-immigration, while Arabs have experienced an unprecedented modernity-driven decline in fertility, in addition to net-emigration.

Against the backdrop of the last stormy sixty-seven years, one may conclude that the sustained wars, terrorism and diplomatic adversity have been merely bumps on the road of unprecedented growth and development, benefitting the Jewish State, the USA and the rest of the world.

Happy Israel Independence Day,
Yoram Ettinger
