Operation Atalanta Warship ESPS Meteoro Meets Local Seafarers
On Wednesday 30 September, Spanish warship, ESPS Meteoro, performed friendly approaches with local seafarers in the Somali Basin.
After sighing the seafarers in the early morning, ESPS Meteoro’s crew delivered food and drink, as well as giving minor medical assistance to the master of one of the dhows.

Operation Atalanta Warship HNLMS Groningen Gives a Local Seafarer Medical Treatment During Meeting at Sea
On Saturday 26 September 2015, Dutch warship, HNLMS Groningen, which is currently deployed with Operation Atalanta as part of the European Union’s counter-piracy efforts off the coast of Somalia, gave medical treatment to a seafarer who had suffered a minor injury at sea.

Operation Atalanta War Ship ITS Libeccio Meets Local Seafarers at Sea
On Friday 25 September 2015 Italian warship, ITS Libeccio, took time to meet local seafarers.
The team from ITS Libeccio was also joined by a Somali linguist from the Djibouti Coast Guard.  During the meeting ITS Libeccio’s team provided the seafarers with food and water, and discussed the issues of piracy in the region.

On Saturday 3 October 2015 three Spanish warships which are currently deployed off the coast of Somalia, rendezvoused in the Gulf of Aden.
The Operation Atalanta flagship, ESPS Galicia and ESPS Victoria performed a simultaneous refuel with American supply ship, USNS Carl Brashaer.

Earlier today, Thursday 08 October, Rear Admiral Alfonso Gòmez Fernandez de Cordoba, (Spanish Navy), handed over the Force Command of the EU Naval Force (EU NAVFOR) Somalia – Operation Atalanta, to Rear Admiral Stefano Barbieri (Italian Navy) at sea in the Gulf of Aden.

EU Naval Force (EU NAVFOR) Somalia - Operation Atalanta is part of the EU's comprehensive approach to tackle symptoms and root causes of piracy off the coast of Somalia and the EU Strategic Framework for the Horn of Africa adopted in November 2011.

EU NAVFOR conducts anti-piracy operations off the coast of Somalia and the Indian Ocean and is responsible for the protection of World Food Programme (WFP) shipping carrying humanitarian aid to the people of Somalia and Horn of Africa as well as the logistic shippings supporting the African Union troops conducting Peace Support Operations in Somalia (AMISOM). Additionally, Operation Atalanta contributes to the monitoring of fishing activity off the coast of Somalia.
